PlayStation VR Latest News: Specs, Taco Bell Promo, Release Date and Price Details Discussed
The PlayStation VR is one of the most highly anticipated device releases this year. It is PlayStation 4's very own virtual reality headset. As excited fans wait for the high-end VR gadget, news about its specifications, pricing, release date, promos and more continue to hit the news. Here are some of the latest.
Specs
Here are some of the specs of the PlayStation VR as reported in CNET. The headset has a 5.7" 1080p OLED Display. It has a 100-degree field of view and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
Unlike previous virtual reality devices, the PlayStation VR doesn't need a powerful PC or a smartphone; it is connected to a PlayStation 4, which is owned by around 40 million people worldwide. It's not as advanced as the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift when it comes to high resolution graphics, but the display is clear, smooth and bright enough.
The headset fits like a scuba goggle; with a more relaxing fit than other VR gadgets. Adjusting the front portion of the headset is done with a button press, which allows people with eyeglasses to use the device.
PlayStation VR works best with controllers. These are PlayStation Camera, PlayStation Move Wand for hand simulation, and DualShock 4 gamepad.
According to Andrew House, Sony Interactive Entertainment president, virtual reality will "rewrite the rules" of gameplay and narrative for game studios.
Taco Bell Promo
Taco Bell has partnered with Sony once again; this time, they are giving customers a chance to win the much-awaited PlayStation VR. How does this work?
For every purchase of select Taco Bell Big Boxes, you have access to a code that you can use to win a PlayStation VR. Simple enter this code in the following website: WINPSVR. If you're lucky, the prize is a PlayStation VR launch bundle.
A similar promo occurred in 2013, as Taco Bell gave away PlayStation 4 video game consoles that year.
Taco Bell tweeted the following message: "Grab a $5 Big Box for a chance to win @PlayStation VR Bundle. No purch nec. See rules: Ta.co/PSVRRules."
The PlayStation VR launch bundle is composed of the actual device, PlayStation Camera, two PlayStation Move Controllers, and PlayStation Store credit worth $40.
The promo will end on October 19. A lot of PlayStation VRs will be given away by Taco Bell. In fact, there is a winner every 15 minutes until the promo ends.
Release Date and Price
The PlayStation VR is set to be released on October 13, 2016 and will be worth $399; cheaper than either HTC Vive or Oculus Rift.
The Oculus Rift is worth $600, and the HTC Vive $800, but you do only get the cables and the headset with $399, and nothing else. A bundle, which includes PlayStation Camera, PlayStation Move Wands, and other essentials if any, would cost around $500.
