'Pokémon Go' Halloween Event Increased Corsola Spawn Rate in Water Biomes
"Pokémon Go" is celebrating Halloween, and to keep up with the theme, Niantic is now making Ghost-type Pokémon more plentiful for the coming days. Along the way, they may have introduced a glitch that made Corsola, a previously rare Pokémon, a very common sight in water biomes.
Niantic is celebrating the season with a special event featuring Ghost-type Pokémon, going so far as to release some Gen 3 Ghosts from "Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire" earlier than the rest.
Maybe in the rush, the "Pokémon Go" team may have also unleashed a flood of Corsola, with the coral-like Pokémon now dominating the augmented reality game wherever there's water, like a virtual invasive species.
Some users were delighted at the unexpected surplus of this otherwise rare Pokémon, as they shared their sightings on the Silph Road Pokémon community on Reddit.
"They're still here and the big ones can be fantastic Blissey/Snorlax counters with no dust spent," as one user describes the strange situation. As the thread poster explained, Corsola has taken over water biomes.
"As shown in the screenshots, Corsola now completely overwrites the water biome after the sudden water biome change implemented in the Halloween event. Corsola represents more than 90% the spawns on the area," the poster noted, referring to screenshots of the mobile game filled with sightings of Corsola.
"This is an example at the north coast of Tenerife, Canary Islands. However, players on other locations of the island have reported equal behaviour on the coast," the user added.
The "Pokémon Go" Halloween Event started last Friday, Oct. 20, and will continue until next week on Nov. 2. Unless Niantic comes up with a quick patch, Corsola are expected to be encountered in large numbers until the event ends.
Ghost-type Pokémon such as Ghastly, Cubone, Misdreavus, Houndour will also be a common sight during the coming week, joined by the first Gen 3 Pokémon to make it to "Pokémon Go," namely Sableye, Banette and Duskull.
