'Pokemon GO' News, Update: Double Candy Event Coming Soon?

Niantic Labs continues its efforts to bring something new for fans to experience in "Pokémon GO." Following the Pokemon Day celebration, there are reports indicating a new event is about to unfold soon.

Express is reporting that Niantic teased at the DICE awards of an upcoming event for the hit augmented reality game that they are yet to officially announce.

This was followed by a clip posted by IGN on their Snapchat account in which a Niantic employee advised "Pokémon GO" players to "save your candy."

This had many believing that a double candy event will be held in the coming days or weeks. The last time fans got to experience such event was during Valentine's Day.

For now, however, nothing is confirmed yet, but it would not hurt for "Pokémon GO" players to prepare for the potential double candy event. After all, Niantic is nowhere near done with updating the game.

In fact, the mobile game hit another milestone, having crossed the 650 million download mark. This was announced by Niantic at the 2017 Game Developers Conference.

Despite the massive number, Polygon explains that it actually indicates a decrease in interest towards "Pokémon GO" as the game has been downloaded 500 million times September last year just two months after the game's release.

Despite this, "Pokémon GO" continues to be Niantic's biggest money-maker, which is why the company tirelessly expands the game, having added 80 second generation Pokémon in the game.

Last Feb. 26 saw the commemoration of the Pokemon Day, marking the 21-year anniversary of the franchise, which began with the release of the very first Pokémon games, "Pocket Monsters Aka and Pocket Monsters Midori" in 1996.

Niantic took part in the celebration by giving "Pokémon GO" players the chance to run into Pikachu donning a festive hat. Trainers will be able to find the party edition of the beloved and most iconic Pokemon up to March 6.
