'Pokémon Go' Rumors: Raids Coming Soon? Will Legendary Pokémon Be Released With Them?

References to Raids discovered in 'Pokémon Go's' files by dataminers

New features could be coming soon to "Pokémon Go," at least according to some recent datamining efforts, which may also be hinting at even larger additions that will arrive later on.

First off, a new post from "eskimo9" on r/TheSilphRoad Subreddit pointed out some lines of code supposedly hidden in the game's files that featured references to Raids.

There are lines hinting that notifications may soon be added that will inform players of nearby Raids that may be getting underway soon.

Unfortunately, more details about how Raids could possibly work within the mobile game were not revealed, but these could still potentially end up being meaningful additions in different ways.

For example, as Game Rant pointed out in a recent article, Raids in other games are typically in-game events that involve numerous players working together to complete a single goal. The report adds that there are also usually valuable rewards waiting for players who are able to help in a Raid's successful completion.

That description of what a Raid typically is hints at exactly why these could be important "Pokémon Go" additions.

It has long been rumored that the Legendary Pokémon – Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, Mew and Mewtwo – will eventually be added to the game via special events, and those could turn out to be those aforementioned Raids.

The different Legendary Pokémon themselves could even become the Raid targets. As for the rewards, the developers could even turn the Legendary Pokémon into the Raid rewards, finally allowing players to control them.

For what it's worth, Niantic CEO John Hanke did indicate during an earlier interview with Wired Germany that the Legendary Pokémon may finally be added this year, according to a translation of the conversation provided by Nintendo Everything.

Perhaps the reason for why Hanke was able to state with "certainty" that the Legendary Pokémon are coming this year is because the Raids that will pave the way for them are set to go live as well.

More news about "Pokémon Go" should be made available soon.
