'Pokémon Sun and Moon' Latest News: Nintendo Partners Up With Target to Give Away Free Charizard Codes

For their next promo, Nintendo is giving away Charizard in "Pokémon Sun and Moon." This Pokémon is the top evolution of the first fire-type starter in the entire game series. How can players get this free Pokémon?

Pokémon announced their partnership with Target, letting players claim a special code card that unlocks Charizard in their copy of "Pokémon Sun and Moon." The promo is good from Oct. 1 until Oct. 14, as announced on a Pokémon news update.

This looks to be a free giveaway in every sense of the word, with no additional purchases needed. Players only have less than three weeks to drop by the electronics section of the nearest Target outlet and ask for their Charizard code.

With code in hand, players can then open the game on their Nintendo 3DS to unlock their prize. Players simply need to select Mystery Gift, then Receive Gift on the main menu.

After that, players must tap Get with Code/Password, then tap Yes twice to connect their handheld to the Internet. Once linked, players can then enter the code to unlock their Charizard.

To pick up their new monster, players must navigate in-game to a delivery person in any Pokémon Center to complete the transfer. Saving the game is very much recommended at this point.

After all these steps, players can now use their Level 50 Charizard in battle, as it comes complete with a variety of moves including Dragon Dance, Flare Blitz, Fly and Earthquake. The Fire Pokémon even comes with its own Red Card held item to boot, according to Digital Trends.

Players must note, however, that this promo is only good for the current "Pokémon Sun and Moon" game. There's no mention of a free Charizard unlock of the upcoming "Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon," which currently has an ongoing free Celebi promo.

The video below shows the Fire-type starter roasting a hapless Dugtrio, as "Pokémon Sun and Moon" announces its Charizard giveaway at Target branches for the first two weeks of October.
