'Pokémon Sun and Moon' Legendary Update: Free Shiny Tapu Koko Up for Grabs This March

"Pokémon Sun and Moon" players in Japan are set to receive a Shiny Tapu Koko for free from March 17 to April 9.

According to Siliconera, Game Freak will be giving away the legendary Pokémon by distributing serial codes at 7-11 stores in Japan. Players who will redeem the codes in the specified period will reportedly receive a Shiny Tapu Koko, which might have a perfect IV and carrying an unknown item. The legendary Pokémon is said to have a different appearance than the usual orange and yellow base color, though. The one in the event will allegedly sport a peach and black color combination.

Gamers will encounter the Shiny Tapu Koko when they reach Level 60 of the main game. The legendary Pokémon will appear at the Ruins of Conflict altar any time of the day after the main story line has been completed. Players will only get to capture it once.

Although the event is exclusively being offered in Japan, Video Games Republic reports that the code may still work in other regions. Since Game Freak did not specify if it will follow the one code per player system, some users may opt to sell theirs. If sold online, it is expected that the price of the codes will be expensive. The Tapu Koko is a rare Pokémon after all.

In "Pokémon Sun," the Tapu Koko has the ability to control the thunderclouds and use its body to stash away lightning. Known for its curiosity, the legendary Pokémon is Melemele Island's guardian deity. Meanwhile, "Pokémon Moon" describes the Tapu Koko as an accomplished flyer suitable for competitive battles. The enemies have difficulty tracking it down because it moves too fast. The Pokémon also has the ability to enhance the powers of Electric Pokémon, thanks to its Electric Surge. A quick-tempered creature, the Tapu Koko is endearing when it easily forgets what made it angry after a while.
