'Poldark' Season 3: Darker-Toned Season Introduces Two New Game-Changing Characters

Two new faces are joining the cast of BBC's popular period drama series "Poldark" when it returns for its much-awaited third season this year. Now that filming has wrapped and the upcoming new episodes currently in the post-production phase of development, will the series' return date come sooner than expected?

According to the International Business Times, "Poldark" will be welcoming two new cast members in season 3. Actor James Wilby has come on board to play the role of Lord Falmouth, while Esme Coy will be giving life to a character named Roswella. These two characters appeared in Winston Graham's novel series, on which this series was based, but it still remains to be seen how much the television adaptation will maintain or alter in order to weave these two new characters into the ongoing storyline.

In the books, Lord Falmouth was the 3rd Viscount Falmouth, who was a recurring character actively involved in the parliamentary elections. He also reportedly held a position of authority and great influence, which could affect Ross' (Aidan Turner) affairs in unexpected ways.

On the other hand, Roswella was a character that hailed from one of the prominent upper-class families in Cornwall. She had a rather villainous air to her, and sources further described her as shrewd and very manipulative. And although she did not have much of an interaction with the protagonist in the books, her television adaptation could possibly become someone significant to Ross' storyline in the long run.

In an interview with Radio Times, actress Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays the role of Ross' wife, Demelza, hinted at a much darker tone when the series returns for its third season.

Will Ross and Demelza be able to maintain their relationship after Ross' passionate and remorseful speech that was the only thing that kept Demelza from leaving him with their son? Will the repercussions of Ross' cheating with former love, Elizabeth (Heida Reed), come back to haunt him in season 3?

"Poldark" season 3 is expected to air on both BBC and PBS Masterpiece later this year.
