10 Prominent Political Figures Accused of Plagiarism
4. Joe Biden
In 1987, then Senator Joe Biden was running a presidential campaign when news broke that he plagiarized a journal article while a student at Syracuse University College of Law.
That September, Biden admitted to the plagiarism. However, he claimed it was not "malevolent" and that the controversy was "much ado about nothing."
"I was wrong, but I was not malevolent in any way," stated Biden at a press conference, as reported by The New York Times in 1987. "I did not intentionally move to mislead anybody. And I didn't. To this day I didn't."
Biden also weathered criticism for lifting remarks from then British Labor Party Leader Neil Kinnock. The two incidents compelled Biden to end his campaign.
