Popular Baby Names of 2013 Influenced by Celebrities: George, North, Django and Finn?
Popular baby names in 2013 have been influenced highly by celebrities and entertainment media, according to the latest reports. Prince George, North West, and various other names have become some of the top baby names, beating out traditional names relatively quickly.
The most popular baby names of 2013 in the U.S. was compiled by Nameberry.com, who found certain previously obscure names rise rapidly up the list in the first nine months of the year. The site tracks trendy names used for boys, girls, and unisex names as well.
Leading the charge for boys names was George, which has gotten a boost from Prince George Alexander Louis, son of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The name, which failed to crack the top 100 in 2012, jumped halfway up the list.
The top name for boys was Asher, but a second place surprise went to Finn, who incidentally was the name of late actor Cory Monteith's character on "Glee." Atticus and Emmett managed to take over the fourth and eighth spots, respectively, but no. 10, Django, was no doubt influenced by the Quentin Tarantino film that came out in December of last year.
Girls' names were mostly uninfluenced by celebrities and the media, but old-fashioned names are certainly in. Imogen snagged the top spot, widening its lead over Charlotte and Harper. New additions to the list included Amelia, Evelyn and Cora in fifth, sixth and tenth, respectively.
One of the most unusual and talked-about names this year, North West, has pushed the name into the spotlight of unisex names. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's baby name landed at no. 7 on the list, while Rowan took the top spot. Quinn, Kai, Sawyer and Avery rounded out the top five unisex baby names.
