Portland Mom Unaware She Was Pregnant, Leaves Hospital With New Baby Girl
A Portland woman who went to the hospital complaining of stomach pain walked out with a new baby girl last week.
Kim Nelson was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday for what was thought to be a ruptured appendix. She found out soon after she was going into labor.
Nelson claimed she had no idea she was pregnant.
"I was 39 weeks [pregnant] and didn't have the slightest clue," said Nelson to KGW Tuesday.
Nelson did not believe her nurse when told she was pregnant
"When I got to the hospital, they're like, 'Can you possibly be pregnant?' and I'm like, 'No,' and then they came back in and they're like, ‘Yeah, you're pregnant."'
Doctors previously told Nelson she would not be able to have more children because of cysts on her ovaries. Nelson attributed her recent weight gain to her job.
"I thought the weight gain was due to cysts I had in my ovaries and working at Dairy Queen and eating all that food...I didn't have the slightest idea that this little bundle of joy was in my tummy," she said.
The mother of two said she knows what its like to be pregnant but did not think it was possible. Four hours after being admitted to the hospital, she gave birth to her third daughter, Paige Lynn Dawn Anderson.
Paige came in to the world weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces and Nelson said she is a welcome addition to the family. Nelson's other daughters are 3 and 9.
The family has already given away all their baby supplies, but Nelson said friends and relatives would help get the family everything they need for their new baby girl.
