However, looking at Sporting's current form, another loss may not look surprising.
After back-to-back wins over Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps, Sporting KC dropped a big 5-0 loss at home to the San Jose Earthquakes.
It was an embarrassing performance for Sporting as they allowed a goal as early as the third minute to set the tone of the game throughout the night.
Following that loss, Sporting lost 3-2 against the Columbus Crew in a match that saw them take the lead twice – in the 14th minute and 62nd – before allowing the hosts to score twice within eight minutes to lose the contest.
And most recently, they lost to the Colorado Rapids after against failing to hold on to a one-goal lead early in the second half.
On the other hand, Portland had their four-match unbeaten run in the MLS broken recently when they faced the Seattle Sounders.
Prior to that match, they had drawn against the San Jose Earthquakes before beating the Chicago fire and Real Salt Lake with 1-0 scorelines.
They would then draw 2-2 against the Houston Dynamo but traveled to Seattle and allow two goals in the first half to put them in a 2-0 hole.
Portland scored in the second half but could not muster another goal, resulting in their defeat.
For their head-to-head, the teams have drawn twice in their last four meetings with each team getting a victory within that stretch.
