'Power Rangers' 2017 Movie News, Cast and Release Date: Bryan Cranston Says Sorry for Derogatory Comments on Gay Actor who Played Original Blue Ranger
Actor Bryan Cranston has released an apology statement for allegedly offending gay actor David Yost.
Back in 2009, Bryan Cranston once sat in an interview with IGN, wherein he was narrating how one of the characters in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was named after him. He then mentioned that the character's surname was Cranston, pertaining to Billy Cranston, which was played by gay actor David Yost. He then said, "He's the fey one, that's the problem," which had actually offended Yost.

"When I read that interview, which took place about a year before I came out publicly, it really hurt me," Yost said in an interview with NBC Out on Friday. "In his mind, he probably thinks he was being funny, but that's the kind of thing that's not funny, and that's the kind of thing I would hear while I was working on set," he added noting that statements like this usually get to him especially with a lot of people repeating it.
Upon hearing Yost's statement, Cranston immediately apologized. "To be honest, I don't remember saying that," he said. "But I accept that I may have as Mr. Yost suggests, in an attempt at humor, to hear that my impulsive comment hurt someone's feelings, makes me contrite."
Cranston also added that he accepts the responsibility for his thoughtless remark, and also said that he apologizes to Yost and to other offended parties.
On the other hand, Yost admitted that the incident wasn't the first time he felt such homophobic insult. He revealed that he quitted from his role as Billy Cranston in 1995 because he had been experiencing several forms of bullying and discrimination coming from almost everyone including writers, directors and producers of the show.
Meanwhile, the Power Rangers' official twitter account had announced that Bryan Cranston is making a comeback in the upcoming Power Rangers 2017 movie, playing the role of Zordon, Rangers' mentor. He had been in the film since 1995, playing as voice actors of Snizard and Twin Man.
Cranston will be working with Naomi Scott as The Pink Ranger; Becky G as The Yellow Ranger; Ludi Lin as The Black Ranger; RJ Cyler as The Blue Ranger; and Dacre Montgomery as The Red Ranger.
Power Rangers 2017 is expected to hit theatres on March 24, 2017.
