'Power Rangers' Review: Is the Movie Worth Watching?

Moviegoers will get to hear the franchise's iconic theme song, "Go Go Power Rangers," for sure although the site believes that the film held back a bit with these old school references.
On the other hand, IGN, who gave it a score of 7 out of 10, believes that "Power Rangers" best serves fans of the early incarnations of the franchise than those new to it although USA Today says it does a good enough job to introduce the lore to those who are just getting into it.
Both publications see eye to eye that the "Power Rangers" film successfully dives into the mythology while still keeping the core element of the franchise.
USA Today does point out that while the movie has its trademark silly elements, the film tends to sharply shift tones as it goes from ridiculous to dark without proper transition.
Although inspired from its rich historical narrative, "Power Rangers" gets a much-needed update on the technology side, as pointed out by The Hollywood Reporter.
The site, however, feels like the film has overdone it with the drama involving the titular characters dealing with relatable issues although the "judiciously timed humor" makes up a bit for that.
The Wrap, on the other hand, feels that these vulnerable moments of the heroes actually add genuine tone to the "Power Rangers" film with the cast commended for doing a good job conveying these feelings.
Majority of the reviewers over at Rotten Tomatoes feel the same way, praising the cast for their performance. Polygon shares the same sentiment, going so far as to say that the ensemble of newcomers made "Power Rangers" worth watching.
Overall, "Power Rangers" reviews are mixed. It will now depend on what viewers want to see in the film although it looks like those who want to take a trip down memory lane will be happy with what they'll see.
