'Power Rangers' Sequel: Cast Pushes for a Female Green Ranger

The cast members of "Power Rangers" are pushing for a female Green Ranger in the future film installments of the franchise. With "Power Rangers" currently raking in millions at the box office, it has been confirmed by Saban Entertainment founder Haim Saban that five more installments of the popular '90s show are already in development.

Considering the clues left by the film, fans probably have an idea as to what to expect in future installments. One of the most interesting plotlines to follow is the addition of several new Rangers, one of which was mentioned in the film's post-credits.

The post-credit teaser shows the school teacher of the Rangers doing a roll call and making an important announcement — a new student named Tommy Oliver would be joining them. Avid fans of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" know that Tommy is the original Green Ranger.

While the character was not shown in the scene, fans expect Tommy to be a boy, considering that it was Jason David Frank who portrayed the role in the TV series. However, the "Power Rangers" cast members want the future installments to take a different route by featuring a female Green Ranger.

In a recent interview, Red Ranger portrayer Dacre Montgomery revealed that they plan on getting a female star to portray Green Ranger so that the Power Rangers will have an even gender ratio.

"A lot of the cast and I have discussed that we think it should be a girl. It makes it even: three girls, three boys," he said.

He added that turning Green Ranger into a female character will create drama in the sequel, making it more interesting.

"It's left blank. It's a cliff-hanger. Whoever you're going to drop into that position — whether it's a girl — it's inevitably going to create drama," he added.

Since it has already been confirmed that "Power Rangers" is morphing toward a sequel, fans have yet to see which direction the future installments of the film are going to take, as far as the Green Ranger is concerned.
