Powerball Jackpot Latest: $338 Million Ticket Sold in New Jersey, Winning Numbers Are...
After thirteen draws the jackpot in excess of $300 million was finally won on Saturday night, with the winning ticket purchased in New Jersey.
Lottery officials confirmed that a single ticket purchased in New Jersey matched all six winning numbers on Saturday night. The winning jackpot had grown to $338.3 million. The previous jackpot went to a couple in Virginia who won over $217 million in February.
The winning numbers were announced as: 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31.
Jersey officials refused to announce further detail until Monday, according to the Associated Press. It is unclear whether or not someone has already come forward with the winning ticket or in which part of the state the ticket was purchased.
The winning ticket is worth a lump sum of $221 million after tax. But according to officials, 13 other tickets were sold which matched all of the number but did not match with the Powerball. Those tickets are all worth $1 million a piece.
The $338.3 million jackpot is the sixth largest jackpot in lotto history. The largest jackpot made news last year and totaled $587.5 million. Two winners were announced in that drawing. A Mega Millions jackpot also drew attention last year with a record breaking $656 million in winnings. That jackpot occurred last March and three winners were announced in the drawing.
"It's so absurd of a number," UPS driver Jim Baker, 43, told USA Today before the drawing. "People like me who never gamble say, 'Oh, I have to get a ticket.'"
