Powerball Jackpot at $305 Million, 6th Largest in History

The Powerball jackpot is at $305 million, and the numbers that could have won one lucky person millions of dollars were: 4, 13, 39, 46, and 51, with the Powerball being 1. Now, the jackpot has reached record-breaking levels after Saturday's drawing resulted in no winners.

Although no one won the Powerball jackpot in this last multi-state lottery, there were some who managed to make out well by matching some of the numbers. Five Powerball jackpot lottery players came away with $1 million dollars for matching five of the six numbers. The winners came from Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

In Illinois, there were no million-dollar winners, but officials in the state said that some came close enough to get a substantial prize. By matching just four of the numbers, three people will receive $10,000 from the lottery.

The Powerball lottery, in which 42 U.S. states participate, continues to grow as players miss the numbers. The last win came from Seymour, Conn.- a couple won $60 million on June 23. However, for the past six weeks, no one has been able to match all six numbers to hit the jackpot.

The Powerball lottery reaching $305 million is more than an incentive for many to play- it's a record-breaking jackpot as well. Wednesday's drawing could result in one lucky player winning the 15th-largest U.S. jackpot of all time, as well as the sixth largest in terms of cash value. Furthermore, that number could be increased significantly by the time a winner is announced because of the added players, according to LotteryPost.com.

The most recent jackpots to have gone to such astronomical sums were the Powerball in February of this year that went to $336.4 million, and the Mega Millions jackpot that totaled $656 million in March. Those winners were from Rhode Island and Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland, respectively.

After taxes, the lump-sum payout of Wednesday's Powerball drawing should be in the range of $203.3 million, according to LotteryPost.com
