How to Play Powerball
To play in the Powerball lottery, players must pick six numbers in total - five for the white balls and one for the red Powerball. On the night of the drawing, five white balls will be drawn from a pool of balls numbered from 1 to 69 and one red ball will be drawn from a separate pool with numbers labeled 1 to 26. According to Cleveland, the chance of winning the Powerball jackpot is 1 in more than 290,000,000.

Each Powerball ticket costs $2 each. Players can also opt to get the Power Play option. This feature allows players to double their prize in the event they get a prize. This only applies to non-jackpot prizes.

How to Claim Powerball Prizes

For non-jackpot Powerball prizes under $600, the winnings may be claimed at any official Powerball retailer where the players bought their winning ticket. For bigger winnings, players may claim their prize at official lottery headquarters.

According to the FAQ published in the official Powerball website, there is an expiry to winning tickets. Players must check the back of their tickets to know the date of expiry of their ticket should they win any prize. It generally ranges from 90 days to 365 days.

Powerball is played in 44 states in the US including the Washington D.C., Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
