Pray for America Campaigns Kick Off 2010

Christians nationwide are joining one of several prayer-and-fasting campaigns to kick off the New Year and to help the country get "right with God."

Some even more than one.

Among the campaigns is Pray Daily America's 40 Days of prayer and fasting that began Monday and will run until Feb. 12. Participants will meet daily online at www.praydailyamerica.com to pray, seek God, confess personal and national sins and reaffirm the founding fathers' covenant with God for the United States. Each day a different prayer topic is posted on the web site.

"A key to getting our nation right with God is for each person to covenant that God is our God and we are His people; we obey the first two commandments: To love God and to love one another as Jesus loved us," said Steve Krotoski of Pray Daily America.

"By obeying Jesus, He will deliver the USA from everything. We have a good God who forgives sin and loves people," he added.

Though the campaign includes fasting, organizers emphasize that fasting is optional. Some participants will fast one meal a day, and others more or less based on their commitment and as their personal health allows.

The emphasis, organizers say, is to daily seek God's direction for the nation.

"Jesus is the hope for the USA," said Krotoski. "He died for our sins and rose from the dead. The USA must boldly follow Jesus and walk in His love like our founding fathers. Then our nation will be blessed."

Meanwhile, the group Awakening America Alliance is already on its fourth day of prayer and fasting for America. The campaign, which began on New Year's Day, is called "21 Days for a New Awakening." For 21 days, participants will pray that there will be a "Christ Awakening" in America that includes more Americans believing and following Jesus Christ, church leaders that are filled with the Spirit of God, and the sanctity of marriage, among other topics.

On the last day, participants will pray for "an increase of wisdom, direction and understanding in how and where to hold" prayer gatherings that are regularly organized by the Awakening America Alliance.

The Alliance organizes Cry Out America rallies, including an annual event on Sept. 11 that focuses on praying for the nation to be spiritually awake and for Americans to realize they need God.

The complete 21 Days for a Christ Awakening prayer schedule is posted on the Awakening America web site, http://awakeningamerica.us/21days.
