Pre-D.C. Festival Event Draws Over 1,000 Women for Spiritual Lunch Break
WASHINGTON Hundreds of women spent their lunch hours consuming spiritual food at Luis Palau's Ladies Luncheon yesterday ahead of the upcoming evangelistic festival that will convert Washington, D.C.s National Mall into a platform for the Gospel.
As one of several events preceding this weekends highly-anticipated D.C. Festival with Luis Palau, the luncheon drew over 1,000 women to the Washington Hilton to take a break from their work and enjoy an elegant and spirit-filled lunch.
Attendants joined to gain peace and strength in the midst of an increasingly hostile environment, as Margaret Dalton, co-chairperson of the Ladies Luncheon, had said.
She said that D.C. is becoming "more and more hostile."
"We are all still affected by the atmosphere of this city," Dalton continued. "Our city needs to be healed, and our nation needs to be healed."
Applause broke out among the women as they sought a change in the nation's capital.
Recognizing the enduring faith of women, even as they meet the demands of their careers or stand beside their government-positioned husbands, Co-Chairperson Lynda Webster brought attention to the light of hope of these women of faith.
"In all of the hurtfulness and the ugliness that we sometimes see in this town, as I said before, there are countless people of faith hard at work here," said Webster.
"Yes, Washington, D.C. is a tough place, but knowing the town is full of God's people makes me confident that Washington, D.C., is indeed alive with those who work for God's world," she added.
The luncheon culminated to featured speaker Luis Palau who struck a chord in the hearts of the ladies.
"What makes a contented woman?" he asked. The question stirred the crowd as they got their pen and paper ready for the answer.
Palau listed the illusions of contentment, including money, good looks and a marriage partner, paralleling them with true stories that revealed the nonfulfillment that each brought to women.
Finally reaching the point that the attendants were all ears for, Palau directly answered his question saying, "Women who are really in love with Christ the only thing that could be missing is the presence of Christ in your hearts."
In spite of any circumstance, "there's a contentment and happiness" with Christ in their lives, he added.
As the event came to a close, attendants had a chance to invite Jesus Christ into their hearts and renew themselves before stepping outside into the city and back to their workplace.
