'Preacher' Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers News: The Awkward Trio Continue Their Search for God

Most fantasy series delve into either too much drama or excessive cliché scenarios that their plot becomes too generic. The same cannot be said, however, for AMC's "Preacher," which takes its time to indulge in some humor and is about to get its second season in June.

During the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival held in Austin, Texas, AMC officially announced that the supernatural comedy/drama is returning for its second season on Monday, June 19. The great thing is that unlike the previous season, which had 10 episodes, season 2 is going to have a total of 13 episodes, bringing more of the story to fans.

Aside from the announcement, quick glimpses into photos of Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) have been revealed. The three show signs of awkwardness while lying down, obviously looking uncomfortable but in a subtle, comical way.

It can be recalled in the previous season that it ended with an explosive final episode — literally. Custer's town of Annville, Texas blew into smithereens due to a methane leak, taking out his enemy, Quincannon (Jackie Earle Haley), and Emily (Lucy Griffiths) in the process. It will then be interesting to see what happens in season 2, especially after discovering that he met a fake God.

It has been confirmed that Herr Starr, the second-highest leader of the Grail, will be appearing in the upcoming season. Also, executive producer Seth Rogen has confirmed with Rotten Tomatoes that the trio continues to search for God. If that's not enough, more characters are showing up in season 2, which means more angles to see and more violence to witness.

How it all pans out will surely be a treat to marvel at. "Preacher" season 2 returns on June 19, 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
