The importance of these debates cannot be underestimated, and how well the two candidates do will be sure to sway millions of undecided voters in swing states. Some have gone as far as saying that whoever comes out on top of the three Presidential Debates will be likely to be in the White House following the November 6 Presidential election.
This first debate will be taking place at the University of Denver in Colorado, with some analysts predicting that up to 80 million will tune in to see President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney debate on domestic policy issues.
The debate is scheduled to last for 90 minutes and will be hosted by Jim Lehrer, host of PBS' NewsHour.
Tonight's event will contain six segments with each scheduled to be kept strictly to 15 minutes each. Three segments will focus on the economy, one on health care, another on the role of the government, and the final one on governing.
Following tonight's debate there will be two further presidential debates, which will take place on Oct. 16 and Oct. 22. There will also be a Vice-Presidential debate between Vice-President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan, which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 11.
