'Pretty Little Liars' Season 4 Spoilers: Special Noir Episode on The Way

The popular ABC Family drama "Pretty Little Liars" has something new and unexpected up its sleeve for a special episode airing on Feb 11. The special episode will be in all black and white and will take a departure from the main show's style to tell the story in a full film noir style.

In an interview with TV Guide executive producer Joe Dougherty discussed the show and ABC's decision to do this special episode.

"ABC Family noticed what we were doing visually on the show, going for very noirlike effects, and asked if we wanted to go all the way and make something special in black and white," the executive producer told TV Guide.

Dougherty explained that the process of filming the noir episode required a little extra work.

"We had to test the wardrobe to see what everything would look like," he said.

Dougherty believes that though the style of the show will be different, the uniqueness of the "Pretty Little Liars" characters carries over.

"What stands out for me," says Dougherty, "is how the four Liars carry their personalities into this new world."

In other "Pretty Little Liars" news, the successful show recently launched a spin-off, "Ravenswood."

The actor who plays Caleb, Tyler Blackburn, has also spoken about the new show "Ravenswood" and offers a theory as to why "Ravenswood" is so appealing to "Pretty Little Liars" fans.

"I think Ravenswood will appeal to a lot of different types of people and you don't have to just be a Pretty Little Liars fan. Because it has a supernatural element I think it'll open up a whole new audience," the actor said in an interview with TV Guide.
