'Pretty Little Liars' Season 6 News: Series May End With Season 7; Lucy Hale Wants It To End 'Really Tragically'
The shocking midseason premiere of "Pretty Little Liars," which aired Tuesday, saw the murder of Charlotte (Vanessa Ray) and the stirrings of a whole new big bad, which showrunner I. Marlene King has taken to calling "Uber Bad."
"Along with the new mystery in 6B is the birth of what I call our 'Uber Bad' in the show," King told TVLine. "We find out fairly soon what this 'Uber Bad' wants, but we won't know who it is for a while," she revealed.
Having a new mystery to uncover and a new villain for the Liars to deal with may reassure fans that the series won't be going away anytime soon. But the show's actors seem to think differently.
Sasha Pieterse, who plays Alison DiLaurentis on the show, recently told E!, "Right now it feels like [season seven] could possibly be our last season."
Lucy Hale, who plays Aria Montgomery, concurred, saying, "As of now, it'll be an end at season seven, but we will go out with a bang, I promise."
Interestingly, Hale has some strong opinions about how the show should end. "I used to say, oh I want the girls to end up happy and live an A-free life, but I kind of want it to end really tragically," she said.
According to Hale, she wants viewers to be upset when the show ends. She wants them to feel as though they have lost something, just like how she feels when her favorite shows come to a close. Thus, a tragic ending would be appropriate.
With a new "Uber Bad" in town, Hale might just get what she wants.
Meanwhile, though the identity of this new villain is still under wraps, "Pretty Little Liars" EP King has teased that it will wreak havoc by using other people's weaknesses to its advantage. This makes Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) particularly vulnerable, as among the Liars, Emily has returned to Rosewood the most damaged.
"Pretty Little Liars" also stars Troian Bellisario as Spencer Hastings and Ashley Benson as Hanna Marin.
It airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Freeform.
