Prince Found Dead at His Paisley Park Studio
Prince Rogers Nelson, also known simply as Prince, has died at the age 57 on April 21. Authorities and the music icon's publicist have both confirmed the news.
According to a statement from the Carver County Sheriff's Office, Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He did not respond to CPR and was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m.
Publicist Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed the news to the Associated Press. However, no details about the possible cause or circumstances of the musician's death were provided.
"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning," publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said.
The sheriff's office, with help from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office, are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the star's death. The medical examiner is expected to release the autopsy report on Friday.
The sheriff's office had responded to a 911 call they received from a man at 9:43 a.m. Authorities have yet to neither identify the caller nor the circumstances surrounding the call.
"The person is dead here," the man said as he struggled to find an address to give the dispatcher, according to a transcript of the call released by authorities. "And the people are just distraught."
Prince was in the news for getting hospitalized in Moline, Illinois on Friday, April 15, after taking the stage in Atlanta for two unusually short concerts with 80-minute sets. Reports said he suffered from dehydration while getting over the flu. He was released three hours after his admission to the hospital and flew to Minneapolis to recover at home. Prince was last seen publicly at a dance party last weekend showing off his new guitar and piano sans the singing due to a "severe flu."
