Prince George's First Christmas 'Lovely,' Says Kate Middleton; Prince William Excited for Next Year

Prince George hit another milestone as he celebrated his first Christmas with the royal family. His parents spoke out about their son's special day and expressed excitement at future holidays.

Baby George, only 5 months old, stayed behind at the Sandringham estate while his parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all ventured to the local church for Christmas morning service. Well-wishers, and those hoping to catch a glimpse of the newest royal, reportedly began lining the streets at 4:00 a.m., and a lucky few were able to interact with Duchess Kate Middleton and Prince William.

"Kate told me he [George] was having a lovely day but was more interested in the wrapping paper than the presents," Cicely Howard, 75, told reporters.

Nannies attended to George's needs while his parents were away, but they came together again after church was over. The family then spent the rest of the day together, gathering to exchange gifts and watching Queen Elizabeth's annual Christmas Day address to the people.

"We've had a good morning with George, and I can't wait until next year when he's bigger," William told the crowd.

The youngest Prince was surrounded by loved ones including great-grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip, grandparents Prince Charles and Camilla, cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and uncle Prince Harry. Zara Phillips, heavily pregnant, also made it to the Sandringham Estate for Christmas. She is due to give birth to her first child next month.

"I have been a bit bored," the Royal Olympian admitted about the late stages of her pregnancy. "I'm used to being on the go and active the whole time, and now it's quite different. So, yes, I'm baking. I love cooking and will definitely cook for the baby."

Phillips is married to Mike Tindall, who accompanied the Royal family to the church and back to the estate on Christmas. She has always been close to Princes William and Harry and is now one of Prince George's godparents.
