Prince Harry Grieves Loss of Mother While Spending Time With Orphans in Brazil
Prince Harry has a very soft spot in his heart for those who are hurting, and he often uses that soft spot to help make lives better. But the Prince had a very emotional moment when visiting orphans in Brazil and spoke about losing his own mother, the late Princess Diana, when he was just 12 years old.
"I wanted to use my own experiences in a very small way to try to give them a bit of understanding about the fact that I see what you're going through," Harry told The Telegraph. "But you hear the stories and think that's nothing to what they have been through. I was completely overwhelmed and shocked. I've never blubbed (cried) in public as far as I can remember, but I was pretty damn close. It was amazing to hear those stories."
The Prince visited the children who were being helped by the Acer Community Project outside Sao Paolo. He played football with them and listened to their stories of loss and grief, as well as their resolve to keep going in the face of adversity.

"It seems ridiculous for me to say to these kids how lucky and fortunate they are considering their situation. Obviously they are far from that," Harry said. "But I am only too aware by listening to their stories how many other kids there are like this that aren't as fortunate as them. They have been able to be reunited with other members of their families. What this place is doing is reuniting children as young as eight years old."
Acer seeks to reunite orphans with members of their extended families so that they will receive proper care and not be left alone. The Prince was deeply touched by Acer's commitment to families and the youth it serves. He will continue his tour of the country, which is expected to last one week.
