Prince William and Kate Middleton Adopt New Puppy

Following months of speculation a palace source confirmed on Tuesday that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton have indeed adopted a cocker spaniel puppy.

The royal couple adopted the male cocker spaniel through a "family connection," according to a "Today" show report.

The palace confirmed that the couple adopted the canine, who is now "a few months old." The source offered little information as to what the pooch was named or why the royal couple opted to adopt that particular breed.

Some speculate that the couple chose a cocker spaniel because the Middleton family is known to have a fondness for that particular breed. Kate's family currently own a cocker spaniel, according to E! News.

Earlier in the month, the famous couple was spotted walking the tiny pooch along the beaches of north Wales only days after Kate celebrated her 30th birthday. Several reports originally speculated that the puppy spotted alongside the couple was a Labrador.

Scores of rumors surfaced over the holidays suggesting that Prince William, 29, got his wife a puppy for Christmas, but the palace never confirmed the reports.

William grew up with a black Labrador named Widgeon, who passed away around two years ago.

Prince Charles and Camilla also recently adopted a dog of their own. The Prince and his second wife adopted a Jack Russell Terrier named Beth this past August.

Queen Elizabeth is known to be a dog lover herself, and has owned several corgis over the years.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been the subject of much media attention since their lavish royal wedding captured audiences across the world last spring.

Since their wedding, the couple has gone on numerous humanitarian missions seeking to raise awareness and support for issues plaguing our planet.
