Prince William and Kate Middleton News: Royal Couple's Taj Mahal Photo Evokes Sad Memories
Prince William and wife Kate Middleton had a photo of them taken together with the façade of the iconic Taj Mahal in India as their backdrop. As the photo made its rounds online, many couldn't help remembering the Prince's late mother, Princess Diana, who, unlike her son's photo at the famous Indian landmark, had her photograph taken alone when she visited the place in 1992.
It can be recalled that one day in February of 1992, the late Princess and her then-husband Prince Charles were also in India for a royal visit. However, instead of accompanying Diana at the Taj Mahal, the Prince went to architecture schools instead.Nonetheless, despite her then-husband not accompanying her, Diana proceeded with her visit to the iconic structure and had her photograph taken at a bench alone.
After the cameras stopped flashing, Diana revealed to the press that the experience would have been better if Charles had accompanied her. However, despite being alone, the Princess declared that it was a healing experience. Prompted by a member of the press as to what she meant with her statement, she quipped, "Work it out for yourself."
Months later, Charles and Diana's separation was announced. Charles went public with his relationship with childhood sweetheart Camilla Parker-Bowles and Diana was reportedly heavy with billionaire Dodi Fayed's child when both of them died in car crash in a Paris tunnel in 1997.
Meanwhile, according to Vanity Fair, William and Kate enjoyed their 15-minute tour of the place, with William describing the experience as overwhelming.
"It's a beautiful place, stunning designs in there," William said.
"It's been really incredible to learn about the romance of the building and its really beautiful architecture," revealed Kate.
Royal commentators opined that William's attempt to recreate the photograph of his mother was an act of braveness and was a tribute to the late Princess. However, according to sources, the move was a way of the Prince to create new and better memories to associate with the structure.
"The Duke is completely aware of the history of this place with his family, and he appreciates that a lot of people who come here have his mother in mind. . . But this is about the future for them, it's about looking forward and creating new memories," a source of Vanity Fair revealed.
