Prince's Death News: Singer Never Used Drugs, Says Cyndi Lauper
Although Cyndi Lauper says that she is slowly feeling better following the death of her dear friend Prince, she is still devastated and in a state of disbelief over the loss of the icon. As she talked with Billboard, Lauper only had good words for the man who departed too soon.
"… I feel a little better now, but, I dunno, I feel horrible. I loved the guy. You just didn't expect him to go like that. He doesn't do drugs; he was sick, so he might have been taking medication, but I don't know what the heck happened. And y'know, he always pushed himself. He pushed himself, pushed. It really hurts," Lauper told Billboard as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Soon after the news about the unexpected demise of Prince in Thursday last week, Lauper honored her friend and thanked him for the words of wisdom that he gave her when he was still alive. The singer said that she was inspired by the career moves of Prince, citing one specific example of bundling his 2004 album "Musicology" album with free tickets to his concert tour in that same year.
According to Lauper, Prince was not only brilliant but also generous of his ideas, usually explaining to her how things should be done.
There is one particular light moment that Lauper and Prince shared that the former cannot forget and proves the strong bond that they had. After performing at New York's Madison Square Garden, the now-deceased singer headed to the after-party event and performed once more. As the VIPS were asked to stand during the encore and sing with Prince, Lauper just did what was instructed. As she was singing, it was then when Prince realized that he was singing with a good friend.
"… And he just opened his eyes and said, 'Cyndi?' I said, 'You told me to come here! I was just over there.' It was kinda funny, and then I just sang with him, and then we talked."
Now that Prince is gone, there are things that Lauper regret not doing for the singer while he was still alive. If there's one thing, though, that is never too late for Lauper to do in the memory of Prince, she said that it will have to be to stop herself from cursing as the departed music icon never cursed at all.
Prince died Thursday reportedly due to drug overdose. The complete findings on the cause of his death will be revealed weeks from now based on the autopsy on his body.
