Pro-Choice Darling Wendy Davis, Who Is Running for Texas Gov., Claims She Is 'Pro-life' for Caring About 'Life of Every Child'
A pro-choice Texas politician who made national headlines for her hours-long filibuster against a bill that would limit abortion access has recently dubbed herself "pro-life" over her views on child care.
Wendy Davis, who is presently running in the Texas gubernatorial race, said in a campaign speech in Brownsville that she viewed herself as "pro-life."
"I am pro-life…I care about the life of every child: every child that goes to bed hungry, every child that goes to bed without a proper education, every child that goes to bed without being able to be a part of the Texas dream," said Davis.

"[I care about] every woman and man who worry about their children's future and their ability to provide for that future. I care about life and I have a record of fighting for people above all else."
Back in June, the Texas Legislature was debating the merits of a pro-life bill that if enacted would among other things increase the regulation of abortion clinics and ban most abortions after 20 weeks gestation.
Late in the special session, Democratic state senator Davis launched a filibuster that went on for more than a half a day against the bill. Davis garnered much support from pro-choice supporters on social media, getting compliments across the nation on Twitter as well as praise from President Barack Obama.
Her efforts contributed to the special session ending without a passed bill; Governor Rick Perry then proceeded to call a second special session in August that passed the legislation.
Davis is presently running for governor of the Lone Star State against Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, who as Texas Attorney General is defending the anti-abortion legislation in court.
Many pro-life organizations based in Texas have taken issue with Davis' remarks in which she took a moniker commonly used by those opposed to abortion.
In a statement given to The Christian Post, the group Texas Pro-Life Action Team stated that Davis' campaign in general "is nothing other than a continuation of the lies the abortion industry thrives on."
"She knows the pro-life position is a winning position in Texas, as opposed to her actual position, which she very proudly filibustered for, which is that children in the womb past 5 months can have their limbs ripped off, their heads decapitated and their bodies sucked out through vacuum tubes," reads the statement in part.
"She is the epitome of late-term abortion on demand. She is married to it and she will now do and say anything she can to get as far away from it as possible."
Emily Horne, spokeswoman for Texas Right to Life, called Davis' comments "disturbing."
"She rallied mob dissent against common sense medical standards that protect the health and safety of women from predatory abortion providers," said Horne.
"Davis believes she could be called 'Pro-Life' because she cares about protecting, providing for, and educating the children of Texas, but Senator Wendy Davis has actively put the lives of those same children who she claims to care for in jeopardy of dying a painful death because of an elective abortion."
