'Pro Evolution Soccer 2016' review: Better than before, improvements made
Football simulation game "Pro Evolution Soccer 2016" has been released already and it's not surprising it's making some buzz among football fans. Konami's rival, FIFA, turned out to be a motivation in making their game the industry leader in the professional soccer game space. In fact,Game Spot noted that PES European manager Adam Bhatti believes that it won't be long before the PES franchise outdoes EA's FIFA series.
"We're definitely catching up with FIFA," Bhatti told MCV. "And we have to be respectful about that. We have to keep closing that gap. In a couple of years we'll clearly lead again. But we have to convince a lot of people."
In a review by Chris Schillling via IGN, the writer detailed how he feels reluctant making a comparison between FIFA and PES. The two games are unique in their own way but while FIFA does a better job in recreating the look of the sport, PES wins in the aspect of capturing the feel of the game. This year's game version carries a much stronger sense of physicality. Every time a character player, say for example, jostles opponents, the level of realism it generates far exceeds expectations.
A very notable improvement in the PES 2016 is the Master League. It went through a downfall during the Xbox 360 or PS3 period, making it a no match to FIFA's more advanced campaigns. But it has now been given an overhaul that will allow players to load more stats and team reports. It has sleeker menus and cut scenes for key events and holds a tremendous focus on team balance and spirit.
Aside from that, Konami is making use of the Fox Engine which was introduced a couple of seasons ago. It is also the same engine that powers the outstanding "Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pains." Through this engine, the game is able to deliver to gamers superior animations, character models, physics and weather effects.
PES 2015 was a good game in its own right. But without a doubt, PES 2016 is certainly a better game than its predecessor. "Pro Evolution Soccer" is available to play on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC.
