Pro-Life Group Mourns Victims of First Pro-Abortion Law
One of America’s oldest pro-life organizations is mourning for all the unborn babies whose lives were cut off before conception because of the nation’s first abortion law.
One of America’s oldest pro-life organizations is mourning for all the unborn babies whose lives were cut off before conception because of the nation’s first abortion law signed nearly 40 years ago.
Colorado Right to Life, from the home state of conservative voices such as Focus on the Family and the National Association of Evangelical, is denouncing its state for its support of abortion with the law’s 39th anniversary on Tuesday.
“Our Nation is owed an apology for our state’s role in starting the abortion holocaust,” said the CRLC president, Diane Hochevar in a report released on Monday.

However, the organization applauds South Dakota for passing the first law restoring legal protection to pre-born babies.
"As the state that started the abortion holocaust, we should have been the first to lead America back to protecting all human life, from fertilization through natural death," said Colorado Right to Life V.P., Leslie Hanks.
"When babies aren't safe in their mother's wombs, we are all in danger," commented Hanks.
It was on Apr. 25, 1967, that then-Colorado Gov. John A. Love signed the first permissive abortion law in the United States, allowing abortion in cases of permanent mental or physical disability of either the child or mother or in cases of rape or incest. Shortly afterwards, similar laws were passed in California, Oregon, and North Carolina.
Colorado Right to Life was formed in July 1967 in response to the passage of the abortion law and at the urging of a Lutheran housewife. The organization’s goals include promoting “respect for human life” and educating the community to the dangers of abortion and other methods of self-imposed death.
"We must reject the taking of innocent life and embrace our founding documents," said CRLC president Hochevar. "The Declaration of Independence boldly proclaims that 'We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.'"
