Project Scorpio Release Date, Specs Rumors: Upcoming Console Gets Official Product Page; Source Confirms Internal PSU

The upcoming console from Microsoft, which is dubbed as the Project Scorpio, now has its official product page at the technology company's online store. Meanwhile, an industry source confirms that Project Scorpio will arrive with an internal power supply unit.

Project Scorpio's official product page teases a few of the console's specs.

According to the product page, Project Scorpio is "the most powerful console ever with 6 teraflops of graphical processing power," "the first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and high-fidelity virtual reality," and will be "compatible with all Xbox One games and accessories."

Unfortunately, the product page is still just a teaser since it does not provide yet the option to pre-order the console. It only has an "Email me when available" button instead of the pre-order option.

Also unsurprisingly, Microsoft did not disclose the retail release schedule of the device. The product page only says "Holiday 2017," which has been a known piece of information since the announcement of Project Scorpio last year.

Since Project Scorpio was announced during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in July 2016, Microsoft has been teasing console fans that they are preparing an exemplary gaming device. In the said event, Xbox marketing chief Aaron Greenberg called the project a "beast."

"It's gonna be the most powerful console ever made, and as a guy who was here when we built the original Xbox, that being such a powerful box, and we pioneered with Xbox Live, and some of those innovative games, it really feels like we're getting back to our roots," Greenberg added (via DualShockers)

On the other hand, news outlet Windows Central recently shared that it got a tip confirming that Project Scorpio will sport an internal PSU. It is important to note that the said specification is nothing new though since the Xbox One S already has the same feature.

Windows Central's source also shared that Microsoft will equip the console with HEVC and VP9 codecs which will make the promised 4K streaming possible. The optimum resolution quality is believed to not only be available for gaming but also for streaming services like Netflix as well. This means that future Project Scorpio owners will likely also get the experience of watching their favorite shows in 4K quality.
