Project Scorpio vs. PS4 Pro: Find Out How Microsoft and Sony Consoles Compare to One Another

Project Scorpio to be released during the upcoming holiday season, PS4 Pro already available to purchase

This console generation has been a bit different from ones past with some notable upgrades being made available earlier than usual to gamers in the form of Sony's PS4 Pro and Microsoft's Project Scorpio that is expected to go on sale earlier this year.

While some gamers may feel that it is still too early to seek an upgrade, there may also be those who want to see what these have to offer and also how they stack up to one another.

Beginning with the types of CPUs that these consoles have, Sony's latest offering comes with the x86-64 AMD Jaguar. As for the Scorpio, this gaming platform will feature a 2.3 GHz custom CPU.

In the GPU department, the Scorpio holds an edge over the PS4 Pro, with the former capable of offering 6 teraflops of performance, while the latter tops out at 4.20 teraflops.

Both consoles feature 1TB of storage space, but there is a difference when it comes to memory. Project Scorpio is equipped with 12GB of GDDR5 memory, while the PS4 Pro is listed as having 8GB of GDDR5 memory.

The listed specs do seem to give the newest console from Microsoft a significant advantage over its Sony counterpart, but price is almost always a factor considered by console buyers and that may level the playing field to some degree.

Whereas the PS4 Pro is currently available for $399, Digital Foundry's Rich Leadbetter put forth an educated guess in a recent article and indicated that Scorpio could go on sale for $499 based on what it features inside.

In any case, gamers will be able to experience for themselves just how different or similar these consoles are later this year, as Project Scorpio is set to join the PS4 Pro in the market sometime during the upcoming holiday season.
