Prominent Apologist Probes 'Who is God?'

TORONTO – Some 20,000 people listened attentively as one of the nation’s top Christian apologists answered the timeless question of who God is on the last day of MissionFest Toronto.

Dr. Ravi Zacharias, president of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, followed his opening session on the meaning of being man with the character and nature of God.

He noted Saturday the importance of the question of who God is because it affects all aspects of a person’s life including how you speak, what you watch, how you treat your marital vows, and what you do with your money.

“More consequences to your life follow from what you believe or disbelieve about God than any other subject you or I can think of,” said Zacharias.

The host of the weekly radio program “Let My People Think,” broadcasted to over 1,500 stations worldwide, referred to 2 Chronicles 20 about Jehoshaphat’s prayer to answer the question of who God is. In the prayer, Jehoshaphat posed three questions: “Are You not the God who is in Heaven?” “Did You not rescue us from the hands of our enemies?” and “Will You not save us?”

Zacharias said that it is problematic to try to fill in the sentence of “are you not…?” based on our personal experiences of God because people’s experiences collide and can be shaped by their own ideas of who they would like God to be.

He spoke about the Hebrew, Greek and Roman communities and their different perceptions of who God is based on their religion or culture.

“Light, knowledge, glory – He is standing before these audiences and becoming all things to all men,” said Zacharias.

The preacher pointed to the scene of Jesus Christ praying in Gethsemane to conclude that God is our Holy Father – someone that is so close but at the same time there is a holiness and respect that separates us from God.

“Imagine telling the world it has no father,” said Zacharias. “Who is God? Who is He? He is our Holy Father.”

Zacharias asked the audience if they knew God as their savior and what He has done for us.

“Will you not trust Him to deliver you in the future?” the speaker concluded. “Who is God? He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Him.”

Dr. Ravi Zacharias is a sought after speaker who has spoken at prestigious universities including Harvard, Princeton, and Oxford as well as to political heads such as top Hamas and Syrian leaders, the president of Albania, and the parliament of Peru.

Also speaking at this year’s annual MissionFest Toronto was Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, among other prominent Christian figures.

MissionFest is the largest missions conference in Central Canada and features 200 exhibitors, educational seminars, concerts, and interactive family activities.
