Prostitution Ring Busted in DC
Washington, D.C. police have announced the arrest of 74 people involved in a 12-hour prostitution sting entitled “Operation Off the Streets” early Saturday morning.
The operation began Friday night and was wrapped up by 6am on Saturday.
The operation targeted both men and women who were engaged in prostitution on the streets, hotels, and internet. Police had cooperation from several hotels that provided them with an environment in which to carry out the sting.
Prostitution in DC is as old as our nation’s capital. According to Progressive Review, there were 450 brothels surrounding the city during the Civil War. In 2008, the D.C. Human Trafficking Task Force, which investigates adult and child prostitution, revealed 32 cases of teenage girls being sexually exploited for money by older men.
