PS4 Crimes: 2 Incidents Result in Man Fatally Shot, Another Sold Towels
This weekend two meet-ups for the selling of a PlayStation 4 went horribly wrong, as one man was essentially robbed and another was fatally shot.
In the first incident, two men arranged a meeting after speaking online about the purchase of a PS4. The victim was in his early 20s, according to reports, and met with the shooter at their designated location in San Francisco's Bayview District.
The unnamed man was then shot multiple times upon arrival. The shooter fled and the victim later died of his injuries at San Francisco General Hospital, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
Police are currently looking through surveillance footage in an effort to find the culprit.
Another incident falls under the "head-scratching" category of crimes. A man from Colorado Springs was robbed after a Craigslist meeting, resulting in the victim purchasing a PS4 box full of towels instead of a console.
The victim met the poster of the online ad at a motel in hopes of purchasing the new mostly sold out console for his son for Christmas, reported Kotaku. The man paid the undisclosed amount of cash, but the suspect fled the scene and jumped into a getaway car. Upon opening the box, the man discovered he had just been sold a PS4 box full of towels.
Just a few days after the console's release on Nov. 15, there was a shooting between two men who met to work out a deal for the system.
Emmanuel Johnson was fatally shot on Sunday at the 700 block of West Church Street, according to The Orlando Sentinel. The other man involved with the shooting was hospitalized with gunshot wounds, and his name has not been revealed yet.
The two men were supposed to meet outside of Orlando's police headquarters on 4:30 p.m. according to the police report. It was then that one of the individuals changed to location of the meeting to Church Street. It was at this new location that the shooting occurred, but it is unclear who were the ones shooting.
However, police do not suspect anyone else was involved with the shooting and are still unclear about what really happened as they try and fit the crime scene pieces together.
Johnson was only 25 years old and the other man is 23. This was the first reported death associated with the PlayStation 4.
The console sold extremely well, moving over a million units in its first 24 hours. PS4 is still a tough console to find almost three weeks into its life.
