PS4 Pro News: Boost Mode Introduced in Recent Update
The PlayStation 4 Pro recently got an update that included the widely talked about Boost Mode feature. Fans got excited when it was first revealed what sort of changes the new feature brings. But does it actually make a difference?
According to PC Authority, the newly introduced Boost Mode on the PS4 Pro is supposed to speed up the loading process and improve the performance of games. However, that does not mean that it can increase the frame rates of games that already have a specific number of fps set. What it does, though, is it ensures that the games perform at the highest level of fps possible.
However, when the publication tested out the Boost Mode on five games, it found out that it only decreased loading time by a small amount. There was only a one-second difference for "Bloodborne" and "Dark Souls III," and only a few for "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture," "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" and "Oddworld: New 'N' Tasty."
When it comes to frame rates, PC Authority concluded that the difference the Boost Mode made was only minimal. However, since the feature is just an added one, it may be too much to ask for more. After all, it did make a few changes and did not leave a trail of glitches.
The recent 4.5 update did not only make changes for PS4 Pro console users, though. It also brought some goodies for the standard PS4 players. Fans will be happy to know that the PS4 can now support an external hard drive for more storage. Apart from that, a few minor alterations were also made, including the use of voice chat while in remote play mode, custom wallpapers and changes to the Messages and Communities mobile apps. Additionally, players can now find out whether a friend is logged in through their mobile device or console.
