PS4 vs Xbox One: Both Consoles Claim to Break Sales Records, but Who is Winning?

Sony and Microsoft are battling in the latest console war with the PS4 and the Xbox One and now both companies are claiming similar records as far as sales go.

First, Sony made claims that the PS4 was the best-selling console of all time.

"This afternoon we learned from market research firm NPD Group that PS4 was the top-selling console for November and PlayStation was #1 in sales overall for home consoles," wrote Guy Longworth, brand marketing senior VP on the PlayStation Blog. "This news comes on the heels of yesterday's confirmation that the PS4 launch is the biggest ever in the history of game consoles."

Microsoft then claimed that their Xbox One was the fastest selling console of all time.

"November NPD Group figures released today revealed 909,132 Xbox One units were sold in the U.S. in the console's first nine days, making it the fastest selling console on the market in the U.S. Xbox One sales averaged a volume of more than 101,000 consoles per day, significantly outpacing the nearest competitor," a statement from the Xbox Wire read.

Both consoles are closing in on the 2.5 million sold mark, and each sold one million in their first day. However, it is important to note that the PS4 launched in solely in the U.S. while Xbox One arrived in 13 markets.

The numbers are not so close when overall sales are looked at on eBay. The PS4 is dominating the online market on the popular retail site.

Market research group Terapeak said PS4 sales totaled up to $12,554,461 on eBay from November 15-22. In comparison, The Xbox One's launch week, November 22-29, netted the console $7,898,233 on eBay. It is also important to note that the PS4 only launched in the U.S. while the Xbox opened to 13 markets.

Also noted by Terapeak is that the Xbox One made more money on the first day, but it could factor into the console being $100 more expensive.

During their launch weekends the numbers were 10,000 PS4's to 7,000 Xbox One's, and overall 21,309 consoles to Xbox One's 11,992.

The PS4 is available for $399 while the Xbox One can be purchased for $499.
