PS4 vs. Xbox One: Consoles Will Not Support External Hard Drives

The PS4 and Xbox One will not support external hard drives at the time of their release, but will launch with 500GB of space.

According to ExtremeTech, the PS4's drive will be user upgradable while the Xbox One's will not. Also, while both support USB 3.0 ports, they will not be able to have the hard drives attached through that method.

Microsoft's Larry Hryb said the company was "working on other things" when asked about the hard drive dilemma at the Penny Arcade Expo.

The impact of a non-upgradable hard drive will likely not bother gamers for a few months of years because off the large size of the 500 GB, but perhaps in the future, and as the consoles become functional for other things, the companies will have to address it.
