'PUBG' Gameplay News: Creator Confirms There Will be No Single-Player Mode
"PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" will not have a single-player mode once it is released later this year, as confirmed by game creator Brendan Greene a.k.a. PlayerUnknown.
As the game's title hints, its gameplay is largely inspired by the battle royale theme and its mechanics are mainly designed to be a multiplayer title.
So, unlike many other video games in the market, the question for "PUBG" is whether it is going to have a single-player mode. Recently, Greene dismissed all hopes for the one-man gameplay.
Greene attended the PAX Australia event last week. The game creator confirmed at the gathering that they are not working on adding a single-player mode for the final version of the game.
The hope for seeing a single-player mode on "PUBG" was actually sparked by a Reddit Ask Me Anything session with Greene where he initially said he was open to expanding the game beyond its battle royale aspect.
This week, Greene touched on the idea of introducing single-player on "PUBG," telling GameSpot, "Because of the lore of the island, there was an idea that I had for what I thought would be a pretty cool single-player [mode]."
However, Greene explained that they do not have the resources to work on a single-player campaign despite the fact that he already has a plot in mind for it. "We have no resources. We have no time. We have no plans to add anything like this to the game. No, no single-player is coming to 'Battlegrounds,'" Greene said.
However, GameSpot added that Greene's statement on not having a single-player mode on the game might not necessarily mean it will not happen ever. The report said the game creator also mentioned that "maybe some day" they would explore the game.
"PUBG" continues to soar in the charts of Steam. In September, it took over the no. 1 spot for having the highest number of concurrents. Then, this month, the game broke its own record for gaining more than 2.2 million concurrent players earlier in October.
The final version of "PUBG" is expected to arrive on PC as well as on Xbox One through the Xbox Game Preview before 2017 ends.
