Purple Heart Honoree in Critical Condition After Homecoming Shooting
Christopher Sullivan, a U.S. Army solider, now remains paralyzed and in critical condition after being shot at during his homecoming celebration.
Police said Sullivan's brother got into an argument with Ruben Ray Jurado, 19, over football and when Sullivan moved in to intervene, the man pulled out a gun and opened fire. The gunman fled the scene before police arrived.
This shooting took place at a San Bernardino, Calif. residence last Friday evening.
"My son didn't deserve this. He served his country," his mother, Suzanne Sullivan, told the San Bernardino Sun. Suzanne Sullivan also said her son suffered two gunshot wounds to his back, which shattered his spine.
Family members are now calling for the shooter to turn himself in to the authorities.
"To come home to this, it's so unfair," his aunt Theresa Marquez told the newspaper.
Christopher Sullivan, 22, is a decorated U.S. solider who recently returned home from his military stay in Afghanistan. He was recovering from the past injuries he sustained from suicide bombings. The bombings occurred last year in Kandahar while he served with the 101st Infantry Division.
Sullivan suffered a cracked collarbone and brain damage in the attack. Since the attack, he had been recovering in Kentucky where he is stationed. He was awarded with a Purple Heart for his heroic efforts during his military campaign.
Sullivan's armed forces enlistment would have been completed in April. Afterwards, it was reported that he was hoping to enroll into college.
Police have not yet to identify the suspect. Meanwhile, Sullivan remains under medical care for his sustained injuries.
