Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Processor Release Date: Leak Reveals Early Launch

The Snapdragon 845, the next-generation processor to be released by Qualcomm, will reportedly be unveiled this December at the Snapdragon Technology Summit.

An invite for the upcoming event was leaked on Weibo, revealing that the big reveal will be held from Dec. 4 to 8 in Maui, Hawaii.

This is notably much earlier than last year as the Snapdragon 835, the predecessor of the Snapdragon 845, was launched at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) January of this year.

While the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor will see the light of day this December, it is not expected to be in production until spring.

The early launch, however, is in line with reports that the Samsung Galaxy S9, the next big thing from the tech firm, will be released much earlier than expected as well.

Previous reports also suggest that the first units of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset will be used exclusively by Samsung, which was also the case with the Snapdragon 835.

The rest of Android manufacturers will have to wait for the second wave of production, undoubtedly giving the South Korean tech giant huge advantage over the competition.

The remaining companies planning to use Qualcomm will be forced to use the last-gen chipset as an alternative or wait for the exclusivity to end, which could hurt the sales performance of their products.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 will reportedly still be built on 10nm FinFET architecture and will come with four ARM Cortex-A75 cores and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores.

The Adreno 630 graphics processing unit (GPU) is expected to provide a graphical boost and should also feature X20 connectivity modem for improved downlink speeds of up to 1.2Gbps.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is expected to be used on a majority of flagships that will be released next year, but it will likely be debuted in the Samsung Galaxy S9.
