Quentin Tarantino Says He'd Prefer Directing 'Star Trek' Over 'Star Wars,' Talks Possibility

Legendary director Quentin Tarantino said that he would rather direct a "Star Trek" film rather than a "Star Wars" one, revealing that he is a fan of Captain Kirk's interstellar adventures.

Fanbases of the two massive franchises have taken part in the age-old debate of which is the superior series, but in a Nerdist podcast, Tarantino made clear where he stood.

When asked if he would be down to direct a "Star Wars" film, which is all the rage right now as Disney aims to expand the space opera, the "Pulp Fiction" director had this to say:

The actual answer to the question is that I would be more inclined to direct a "Star Trek" ... rather than "Star Wars."

Tarantino declared himself a fan of William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk, and the "Star Trek" original series, which he said he will draw inspiration from should he get the chance to take on directorial duties for a "Star Trek" film.

That's my key into the series — William Shatner.

He sang praises for "The Next Generation," adding that the time travel plot in "Yesterday's Enterprise" will be a good way to start a feature film.

The "Kill Bill" director also commended the 2009 "Star Trek" movie reboot by J.J. Abrams, who happens to be the director of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and the untitled "Episode 9" film.

However, Tarantino admitted that he had a problem with Benedict Cumberbatch playing Khan, explaining that with Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, the "Sherlock" actor "can't be" Khan.

With regard to the actual possibility of Tarantino helming a "Star Trek" movie, he said in a short conversation with TMZ that "it would be worth having a meeting about."

Tarantino has declared his plans to retire after two more films — none of which will be "Star Trek" or "Star Wars" as he told IGN that he'd like to do a Bonnie-and-Clyde-type gangster movie and another one set in Hollywood's past to wrap up his directing career.
