R. Kelly Makes History at Soul Train Awards
R. Kelly has received two Soul Train Awards this year, making him the most nominated artist in the history of the show.
The rapper is up for the Ashford & Simpson songwriter's Award and Album of the year, bringing him to a total of 21 Soul Train nominations within his career.
Kelly began his career in 1989 and is best known for his songs "Bump n' Grind," "Your Body's Callin," "I Believe I Can Fly," along with many others.
The 45-year-old is sometimes referred to as the King of R&B, and he has written, produced, and remixed songs for artists including The Isley Brothers, Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, and dozens of others.
In addition to his decorated career, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has recognized Kelly as one of the best-selling music artists in the U.S. with 38.5 million albums sold.
Meanwhile, this year's Soul Train Awards will be taped on Nov. 8 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Cedric the Entertainer will serve as host at the show, which will air on BET and Centric Sunday on Nov. 25 at 9 p.m. EST.
Usher leads the awards with five nominations including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best R&B/Soul Male Artist. The rapper has surpassed both Michael Jackson and Beyonce and become the artist most nominated within one year.
Estelle, Nas, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj and John Legend were also nominated numerous times.
The late Whitney Houston is nominated for best gospel inspirational performance, while Amy Winehouse is nominated for best international performance.
