The race to challenge Trump: Did Biden keep lead after Dem debate?
Democratic Party nomination polling
According to RealClearPolitics’ average of polls on the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, former Vice President Joe Biden maintains a lead over his opponents, but not with the strength he had in previous months.
In data accessed Friday, Biden led with 26.8%. Tied for second were Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Bernie Sanders of Vermont, each with 15.2%.
Third went to Harris with 15%, followed by Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana, with 5.3% and Beto O’Rourke with 2.2%.
Biden’s lead, while considerable, was much higher in May when at one point he had 38.3%. At the same time, Harris had only 7.3%.
The drop from 38.3% to 26.8% cannot be exclusively blamed on Biden’s debate performance, as he had already decreased to 32% going into the debate.
