Dallas Mavericks NBA News, Rumors 2015: Rajon Rondo Considering Free Agency?
After being traded to the Dallas Mavericks several weeks ago, rumors have it that four-time All Star player Rajon Rondo is already considering free agency and departing from the team.
Reports have appeared claiming that while the Mavs and Rondo signed a deal last month, there were no explicit promises made between both parties of resigning. Because of this, Rondo is keeping an eye out for other teams.
Sources told Sporting News that the Mavericks made no commitments of a max contract while Rondo is said to be eyeing other teams, specifically the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks.
The Lakers have long since showed interest in Rondo, while the Knicks are throwing their name into the mix, but everything is dependent on how things work out with the Mavs. The source stated, "Depending on how things go from here, obviously, Dallas would get the first word."
The partnership between Rondo and the Mavericks is looking to be a good fit for both though, especially given the team's back-to-back wins in the past few games against the likes of the Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers and Rondo's former team the Boston Celtics.
As for Celtics fans though, Rondo was warmly received by loud cheers upon his return to Boston to compete against his former team.
Rondo, who played with the Celtics since 2006, returned to the TD Gardens on Friday to play against the Celtics. After his introduction, Celtics fans cheered loudly for him and even gave him a standing ovation. Not only that, but a tribute video was shown between the first and second quarters of the game, showing off his most memorable moments as part of the Celtics.
In the end, Rondo and the Mavericks managed to nab the win at 119-101, with Rondo opening the game at 18 points and finishing with a total of 29 points.
