Randy Travis Arrest Video: Gospel Singer Thinks Police Are Joking (WATCH)
A video of Randy Travis, who was arrested for public intoxication in front of a Texas church at the beginning of February, has been released following the singer's apology for the event.
The country gospel singer and actor was arrested on Feb. 6 following what he said was a Super Bowl celebration. The arrest occurred when the 52-year-old was found sitting in his car in front of a First Baptist Church in Sanger, Texas.
Reports stated that cops found the singer alone in his car, with an open bottle of wine. The video shows Travis standing outside of his car and being told that he is being taken to jail for public intoxication.
"Really, are you kidding me?" Travis responds.
"No sir, not going to kid you," the officer responded.
"You're kidding me," Travis said again.
"No I'm going to be completely honest with you sir," the officer responded.
CBS also reported having an extended video in which Travis identifies himself and is then asked if he has been drinking.
"Yes, sir, I have," Travis responded. "But I am not driving, as you can see."
Following the arrest, Travis released a public statement apologizing for the incident.
"I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl. I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions," the singer said.
According to DBTechno, the video was captured by a dashboard camera from the car of Carl Parker, one of the arresting officers. There has been no comment however, on who released the video.
All Music has called Randy Travis a "pivotal figure" in the history of country music, with 20 studio albums and 30 singles which have hit the top of Billboard's Hot Country Songs. In the late 1990s he began to transition his music from country to gospel.
