Police said that Travis told them he had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend and was slurring his words at the time of the arrest.

He is divorced from Elizabeth Hatcher, whom he was married to for 19 years. Travis, however, issued a statement to fans, saying, "I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl. I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions."

The 52-year-old singer and actor is well known in the country and gospel genres, having released over 20 albums since 1985.

While he began singing country and enjoyed much success, Travis moved into the gospel realm in the late 1990's. His hit "Three Wooden Crosses" was a crossover success and earned him numerous nominations for awards, including several Dove awards.

Travis has also pursued an acting career with roles in such hits as "The Rainmaker" and TV's "Touched by an Angel." He has sold over 25 million records and produced over 20 number one hits, earning him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

According to his website, Travis is embarking on a 25-year anniversary concert tour that will kick-off on Feb. 10. Warner Brothers Records has released a new, 17-track CD collection in honor of the anniversary that combines originals and "Travis favorites such as 'More Life,' 'Road to Surrender,' 'He Walked on Water,' and 'Forever and Ever, Amen.'"

Travis issued the following statement about his anniversary: "I'm surprised at how fast the first 25 years have gone by. It feels like only five. There's no better feeling than being on stage and the connection with a live audience."
