Wiz Khalifa Visits Pablo Escobar Grave; Sparks Anger From Colombians
U.S. Rapper Wiz Khalifa has whipped up quite a storm in Colombia after performing in a festival in Medellin. Unfortunately, the said frenzy wasn't positive at all, as he is drawing flak from a visit he snuck in his itinerary and even documented on social media.
He posted on his official Instagram account a photo of him lighting what appears to be a marijuana joint in the vicinity of the notorious Pablo Escobar's grave. Escobar is an infamous drug lord in Colombia responsible for the death of thousands standing in his drug business, and has been a hated personality everywhere.
Further sparking outrage is his posting of another picture of him offering flowers and a joint on Escobar's grave. This has since been taken down by the rapper, yet it was already too late as the photo has made rounds in the internet, drawing further criticism and anger.
This action has been frowned at by almost everyone, most especially Medellin mayor Federico Gutierrez, saying that such an act is tantamount to "advocating crime," BBC has learned. "It shows that this guy has never had to suffer from the violence inflicted by these drug traffickers," Gutierrez adds in his statement.
"That scoundrel, instead of bringing flowers to Pablo Escobar, he should have brought flowers to the victims of violence in this city," Gutierrez further shows his anger, CNN reports. "He must offer an apology to the city."
Wiz Khalifa is known as a heavy consumer of marijuana, and is not afraid to show it. His Instagram account is peppered with pictures of him lighting up, and perhaps he did such act of visiting Escobar in reverence to the habit of using the drug, but it struck a painful chord in everyone, especially those who remember the atrocities of the drug lord.
The rapper has not released any statement since the incident.
